It’s Flashcast 04! In this cast, we’ll talk about the most misunderstood hero — or villain, depending on your point of view — in the Warcraft verse, Earthen Ring-US during the Burning Legion expansion, and reveal our upcoming Lorecast guests.

CORRECTION: At the time of recording, we had 3 confirmed guests but due to schedule conflicts, one guest had to reschedule. We’ll announce our new third guest soon! This is why Kanta and Ari say 3 guests but only announce two. We promise we can count!

Question: What were you doing during Burning Crusade? We want to hear about your experiences! To get the conversation started…

  • Were you playing World of Warcraft?
  • Were you playing on Earthen Ring-US?
  • If you were on Earthen Ring-US, what roleplay were you playing in?
  • If you weren’t in WoW or on ER yet, what was your character up to during Burning Crusade?

Flashcast 04 Lore Challenge: Illidan is a published author. What did he write?

  • Acele

    ‘The Emerald Dream.’

    • erlorecast

Correct! There is a tome titled “The Emerald Dream” in the Dire Maul library that’s allegedly authored by Illidan! He’s quite sarcastic towards his twin brother, according to the flavor text… http://wow.gamepedia.com/The_Emerald_Dream

  • Veleth

I actually didn’t play in TBC, I came in a month after Wrath launched unfortunately. But Veleth during TBC was (reluctantly) a part of the Scryers, formerly having been in the Sunfury alongside the demon hunter I plan to roll.

He views Illidan strangely. He grew up on the tale of Illidan standing up against the druidic oppression for the birthright of the Highborne, and showing the world how they are unwilling to enforce their own laws. That being how Malfurion was always reluctant to enforce the death penalty for magic, instead opting for life imprisonment and exile. But he also blames Illidan’s insanity and ineptitude at being a leader for forcing the Sun Prince Kael’thas to turn to the Burning Legion to save their people.

    • erlorecast

You call it strange but thinking of it, it does make sense. Malfurion is pegged as the hero of the tale but he made his own mistakes. He’s not the perfect leader. Often, Illidan was more jealous than justified in hating his brother, but he had some good points deeply embedded in the hate.

With the Highborne, they definitely have a terrible history to overcome much in thanks to Azshara and her supporters. Malfurion welcoming back Highborne into the mix at Cata sets the stage for some interesting stuff once Azshara, Illidan, and the Legion show up again. Talk about being haunted by closet skeletons.

Actually, on second thought, maybe I should have wrote “talk about being haunted by your own demons.” 😀
