For each guest hosted on the show, they fill out a little questionnaire we post as a preview. Our Episode 03 guest is long-time Earthen Ring-US roleplayer and event runner, Shaw, also known as Sullivan.
Shaw has run weekly Hordeside Story Night on Earthen Ring for 12 consecutive years. Not only that, but he’s the author of RP Made Simple, a fantastic get-started resource for new roleplayers. Naturally we wanted him to stop by on our podcast and talk about his experiences, especially how he kept up running an event that long. We hope his experience is helpful to current and prospective roleplay event runners out there!

When did you start playing World of Warcraft?
I was looking for a new home from Asheron’s Call and happened upon the WoW Beta. And there we go.
What inspired you to make your main roleplay character? (Other games, movies, novels, other?)
Shaw is patterned after a classic AD&D (2E) ranger, just mortally-challenged. Sullivan is also based on a “Almost a Paladin” Fighter I played through the Avatar Crisis series in the Forgotten Realms. 🙂
What do you like most about roleplay?
I like the weaving of stories between characters I come across. I tend to play the “background” characters, kind of like a Player NPC (if that makes sense). A everyday “hero”, is he/she is one at all.
What’s your favorite World of Warcraft roleplay memory?
Roleplaying with the Winter’s End folks, G.E.A.R. and the Tears. Felena and Father Ty had a weekly “Sunday Service the The Light”. Was fun! 🙂
What’s your favorite World of Warcraft dungeon, raid, or zone? Why?
Duskwood and Karazhan. (Asking for one is a hard one!)
Your character just received 50 double-bladed battle axes in the mail. What do they do?
ICly, Sullivan or Shaw would try to return them if he could track down the sender or help the “war effort” if he couldn’t.
